lilah and the Ben (Ben Lomond, that is)

swimming

lilah looking way cuter than the mountain in the background. yeah, that one. the one that's hiding behind the clouds.

there's the Ben! where's the Lilah?

here she is!

this was a very, very fun way to spend an afternoon.

weather permitting, we'll do it again.

and as you can see, we're pretty lenient about the whole "permitting" part...

as long as it's mild enough not to freeze, right?

you're beautiful

and i can't get over it

whatta girl

looking down loch lomond

getting ready to throw more stones

but not at the ducks

you didn't think there would be more, did you?

but you were wrong.

and how!

something about that boat...

the stillness of the water and the excitement on the shore...

and now, try to pick your favourite.

let's see, how many of the same picture can i take?

it's a good shot

with active models

i'm digging the symmetry

and the colours are so rich

whoa! bum shot!

seeing this made mum laugh out loud

i can't believe they didn't hear me.

walkin' walkin' walkin'... what's that?!

oh, it's just a bee...

...butterfly?

lilah's photograph of our walk

lilah is a bit obsessed with bees at the moment, so i think this was an intentionally shot bit of pictoral evidence that bees like these particular flowers.

bee warned.

bee aware.

bee nice.

ma wee scottish lassie

these should get framed

really. they should.

anyone know a brilliant framer who works for free?

back on the farm

happy, cage free, organic scottish chickens

on a walk along the coast

(it is the coast, even if it is the Clyde)

(p.s. not with the chickens)

that's Ben Lomond in the back.

Loch Lomond in the feet.

happy cat makes for happy kid

tia and lilah sittin' on the sofa

just want to take this opportunity to say that Tia (Pika) Masala is

the best

cat (dog)

in the world.

and we are lucky folks to have her be a part of our family.

in another bucket

this is going to be a plant pot.

but FIRST, it's a lilah pot.

one that can be shared with all the teddies (and super-coco).

9 July 2010

on the plus side

in addition to her questionable choice of words for a girl her age,

today (09/07/2010) lilah has started using "love" all by herself.

ex: when told it was time for bed for the second time by her father, lilah said, "i need mummy!" and Steven said, "why do you need her?"

and lilah said "because i love her!"

(awww)

Steven said, "that's very nice. now get into bed."

good Dad. lay down the bedtime law.

;)

question:

Steven and I have a very smart daughter. Lilah is not only clever, she is quite quick with language, and picks things up after the first hearing.

Which is why it isn't that surprising that the other day -- maybe a few weeks ago, now -- when we were getting ready to go home from my last 10K run in Loch Lomond, Lilah was in her carseat and I was starting the car, and behind me clear as day, she thumps her doll down three times while saying, "Fucksake! Fucksake! Fucksake!"

I turn around, trying to be nonchalant, and ask, "Who says that?"

Lilah says, "Daddy."

So I say, right, Daddy says that, but Lilah doesn't say that.

...

yeah, that didn't work. not at all.

but in the interim, i can tell you that ignoring it doesn't make it stop. nor does asking her to say something else.

she can now use Fuck correctly in a sentence (generally just in frustration about something), or exclamation. so it has progressed. not digressed. or disintegrated. or been erased.

i don't want this to be here to stay. not now. not yet. i know i haven't got the cleanest language, but i try around lilah, and i would really like her to not say words like this just yet.

i mean, we're only hitting the 3 mark in September.

she also said "Shut up" the other day to Tia. now, this is not a word Steven or I ever, EVER use in the house. which means she's picking up things from her friends now, too.

oh my goddess how does one remedy a situation such as this?!?!?!?!!

and at the end of the day

it's time for summersaults (here they're called roly-poly's) on the lawn

love you, lilah.

who is so cute?

is it lilah?

or the cow?!

so much adorableness shouldn't be allowed in the same picture at the same time.

baby coo, meet baby parfery

never seen a babay highland cow before?

neither had we.

that's my babay. and there's the mummy cow.

she says hello. she was such a lovely mummy cow.

we were very pleased to meet her.

only after we had started walking away, some asshole kids came round and one of the girls thought it would be a funny idea to throw a stick at her while she was feeding her calf.

i told them they were giving a great impression to young children. then i told lilah that those were rude kids who didn't like themselves enough to be nice to harmless animals. and that it is always important to be nice to animals.

energy to burn

running up and down hills...

and why not?

after such hard work, we had to stop for an ice-cream

ooh! busted!

wasn't my idea...

number 3) the tire swing

remember what i said about the trampoline being the best toy on a playground? i retract that statement, as this is by far the best invention, ever, for playground amusement.

lilah loves it!

we were on here for about 30 minutes.

and only got off because some other (older) girls wanted to come on to swing.

the spinning, continued

here, lilah does what she does best: joins in, and hangs on.

number 2) the spinning one

perplexed, but intrigued, lilah crouched down to observe the older girls going round and round.
