a californian education, part 1


Nonni's edible garden became Lilah's new classroom immediately.

Other activities that engaged her mind and body were soccer (football, I know), and swimming.


Papa Jon signed Lilah up for the Carmichael Squids, and even though Lilah had never experienced heat as intense as a Sacramento summer, she continuously gave her all (even when she had no idea what she was expected to be doing).

Eventually, Lilah learned that she didn't want the other team to kick the ball into her team's goal, so she would voluntarily run ahead of the swarming hive of kids, and put herself in goalie position.

The faces she would pull would scare even the toughest of Maori warriors.  

Lilah was a good goalie.
