oh the weather outside is weather
This actually happened:
6:45 pm Glasgow. Saturday, 28 May, 2011.
Walked outside after saying goodbye to friends, just up the street from our flat, where we had only arrived 20 minutes earlier.
Opened the door and the rain was coming down at a 45 degree angle, in the foggiest sunshine you could picture. It was like there was a soft-focus light on reality. And the wind was mighty bloistery as well.
Steven was impressed. And he's Scottish. He sees this all the time. ;)
So Lilah and I played our game where Mum says:
"Is it sunny?"
and Lilah says:
"Yes"
Mum: "Is it rainy?"
Lilah: "Yes"
Mum: "Is it foggy?"
Lilah: "Yes"
Mum: "Is it windy?"
Lilah: "Yes"
...
and then we went down the hill, and at the wee bridge over the river Kelvin, there was a double rainbow that went IN FRONT of the trees, and down to the path on the river.
The pot of gold was right there, dude.
We laughed the whole way home about loving to live in Scotland because it has the craziest weather of anywhere.
modelling the latest from iceland
this sweater came in the post from Nina
Nina was on a ship that went from a teeny-tiny island off of Holland, all the way around Ireland, and on up to Iceland. Nina does amazing biological research on marine life and is as sought after as scientists get these days, apart from Professor Brian Cox. But he's a whole different kettle of fish...
Nina found time while visiting the land of volcanoes, waterfalls, and pixies, to go to the local flea market and pick Lilah up her new favourite sweater.
Thank you, Nina! It is utterly beautiful!!
(and the rocks and shells are stunning as well)
We miss you and love you soooooo much!

braiding
is this appropriate?
on mum's birthday, anything goes.
until lilah can read words.
then the hat goes... until she's in her teens at least.
having a birthday with a 3 1/2 year old -- and being someone who particularly enjoys their birthday -- is a rather new experience, because EVERYTHING must be shared. so it was part my birthday, and part lilah's birthday.
which was fine, except when she wanted the presents. then i had to lay down the law... which, for the un-childed out there, was No. Those are mummy's presents.
for the record: "Your birthday is in September. Will we share your presents then?" does not actually work to produce anything except more crocodile tears.
I admit it. I'm a selfish mum when it comes to my birthday. But I'm hanging onto it tooth and nail, because as a mum, there isn't much you can be selfish about anymore.
happy fucking birthday to me. let's have mexican food and chilled beer and some of Steven's Amazing Cake and be merry and jolly and wiser than last year.
hip, hip, hooray!!!
the royal wedding cake
we all had a blast celebrating the Royal Wedding with Amy and Rupert and Theia and Jude.
our very civilised lunch of cucumber and vegan cream cheese sandwiches (and gouda and chorizo sandwiches for the meat-eaters) was followed by another one of Steven's amazing cakes.
i think he should open a shop soon
and call it
Steven's Amazing Cakes.
